Vitamin D deficiency is common amoung Lupus patients and researchers have been investigating the connection between Vitamin D and Lupus for years. On August 4th researchers in Oklahoma published reports that in people geneticly predisposed to Lupus, Vitamin D deficiency could serve as a trigger for the disease. They found that low levels of Vitamin D correlated with increased autoantibodies in both healthy individuals and Lupus patients. The primary source of Vitamin D is the sun. Because photosensitivity is a symptom of Lupus, supplements may be needed to raise Vitamin D levels. All Lupus patients are different, consult your doctor with concerns about Vitamin D levels. |
Our 2009 Lupus Walk Team is starting to pick up speed. We are doing things a bit differently this year. We hare having mini- fundraisers every month to help raise our donations. This year we are not participating in the planning of the walk so that we can concentrate on raising money for Lupus awareness and research. If you support our website, you can now help us support Lupus awareness and research by donating to our walk team. If you or somebody you know are already participating in the Iowa Walk you can contact them for details on how to join the walk or to donate to the walk. |

July 20th will go down in history as the day GlaxoSmithKline and Human Genome Sciences announced Benlysta showed significant improvement to Lupus activity as compared to Placebo in a 52 week study. If this drug eventually gets approved by the FDA it will be the first new treatment for Lupus in over 50 years. It will also be the first drug specifically developed to treat Lupus. This is not a cure and will not work on all patients, but it is a big step in the right direction. |
Cure4Lupus.org has been reaching out to Lupus fighters and their supporters on the Internet for years. One way we do this is with Social Networking sites. We belong to over 50 of these sites and each month we will be featuring one of these profiles so that you can connect with us and other Lupus fighters on the Internet. This month's feature is The Lupus In Color Network |
There are hundreds of websites devoted to Lupus awareness, research and support.
