Lupus Events &

Support Groups

We are in the process of adding support groups, Lupus Walks and other Lupus Fundraisers to our Lupus Events Calendar.  If you know of an event or Support Group that we have not yet included, you can either email us the details to webmaster@cure4lupus.org and we will post the event, or you can post the event yourself and we will approve it after review.

To add the event yourself, visit our Lupus Events Calendar and click the plus sign on the day of your event.  A form will pop-up allowing you to enter details.  You can even make the event repeating.

Dancing At The River's Edge

A new book was released this month, Dancing at the River's Edge: A Patient and Her Doctor Negotiate Life With Chronic Illness.  It was written by Alida Bril, a Lupus Fighter, and her doctor, Michael D. Lockshin.  It is a dual memoir following a decades long relationship built between a patient and her doctor as well as the trials and tribulations of living with Lupus.  If we could help make this book a top seller, Lupus would get some more attention, including perhaps some media attention for the authors and/or the book.  You can get it from our Lupus Products Store:Dancing At The River's Edge.

Lupus &

Stem Cells

When some people hear stem cells they automatically dismiss it as unethical, however some parts of stem cell research are not controversial.  Adult stem cells are stem cells taken from the tissues of adults.  The controversial stem cell research is that done with stem cells retrieved from embryos.  Researchers have had a lot of success in treating severe Lupus that does not respond to any other treatments with stem cell transplants.  This research and success is being done with adult stem cells usually taken from the patient themselves.  Funding and supporting this research to make it safer, and more successful is very important, someday may just lead to a cure, and it does not cause any moral questions.

WeAreLupus.org

Another fantastic place to connect with other Lupus fighters is http://WeAreLupus.org.  This is a social networking website, similar to a MySpace or FaceBook only geared to Lupus Fighters.  When filling out your profile you can include information about how Lupus affects you, how long you have had Lupus, treatments you have tried, etc.

Connecting with people who know first hand what it is like for you is so important when dealing with Lupus!  It can prevent you from feeling alone, or like you are weird.  It can also help prevent depression and worsening of Lupus.

FaceBook

We were informed this month that our FaceBook profile violated the terms of use and our account was disabled.  We were unaware of the violation prior to this.  We have now created a new group on FaceBook that allows us to connect with our supporters without breaking any rules.  We would be happy to have you join our group!  Also, feel free to invite your friends.  You can visit the Cure4Lupus.org FaceBook Group here.  This is a great place to meet others with similar situations to you, find out about the latest news and events happening in the Lupus community.
