Dear Oprah Winfrey Show/Magazine:
We are writing to you today as
part of our media campaign. We have been picking different
media outlets for our network of supporters to write regarding a disease
that affects an estimated 1.5
million Americans. 90% are women. Blacks,
Hispanics, Asians and Native Americans are far more likely to get it
than Caucasians. This disease is Systemic Lupus Erythematosus,
better known as simply Lupus.
For such a common
disease Lupus is
dreadfully under publicized, misunderstood and lets just be honest,
ignored. This disease is often disabling, sometimes deadly and almost always
life altering for not only the patient, but also for their families.
Sadly, it has been over 40 years since the FDA has approved a new treatment for
Lupus.
We hope you will spend some
time talking about a disease that is killing and disabling
thousands of women every year! We would be happy to send a
representative to talk about Lupus and it's effects. We would
also like to give your studio audience members each a Cure Lupus t-shirt. If you want to read more about Lupus
you can visit our website at Cure4Lupus.org the Lupus Foundation
of America's website at Lupus.org or the Alliance for Lupus
Research's page at LupusResearch.org.
